About Windbourne

Windbourne has been together since 1987 and performs an eclectic array of folk music including traditional, contemporary, futuristic, and original pieces. Among the contemporary artists they admire, are Eric Bogle, Christine Lavin, the late Stan Rogers , and Fred Small.

Windbourne's tight harmonies and instrumental versatility, along with their warm personalities and rich black and gold outfits, bring a warmth to their performances which is rarely seen on the stage today.

They have performed at various places around San Diego, including Drowsy Maggie's, Metaphor Coffee House, The Village Emporium, Better Worlde Galleria in Mission Hills, Miracle's, Leucadia Old Time Folk Cafe, the Del Mar Fair, Con-Dor (a San Diego area science fiction convention), and since 1988, a featured act at the San Diego Comic Convention. The group has also performed in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Phoenix, New Orleans, Orlando, Boston, and has opened for Fred Small. Rilla Heslin, representing Windbourne, was toast-mistress for the 1990 Consonance music festival in San Jose.

Windbourne, and its members received several awards from the Con-Chord Music Festival Committee in 1990, including best new group, best keyboardist, and best song in the humorous category. They were the 1995 folk guests of honor at Con-Chord, where Harold Groot was honored with the 1995 best environmental song award.

Windbourne has released two tapes and one CD on the Crystal Rose label; Echoes On The Wind, To Touch A Dream, and, most recently, Winter's Celebrations ,their first CD. Windbourne's music can also be found on several compilation albums, the latest of these is Wail Song's release, Courtly Aires.
