Events And Announcements

Meeting location moved to La Jolla for May

This months SDFSS meeting is at the SDFH Festival at The Childrens School, 2225 Torrey Pines Road, La Jolla.  Tickets for daytime events, $10.  Tickets for evening concert, $10. Children under 12, free.

     Directions:

Just take Highway 52 to Ardath Rd into La Jolla.  The school is at the bottom of the hill on the left at the first light.
The Sam Hinton Folk Heritage Festival will feature Men of Worth, Small Potatoes, and Peter Feldman & the Very Lonesome Boys!
Sam has announced that his appearance on the Patio stage at 1:00 pm will be his last public concert performance.  Were saddened at the "end of an era", but if it had to happen, were pleased to have a part in presenting it.  This will be an emotional time for many of us, but were going to make it a celebration of Sams life and music.  Dont miss your chance to hear Sam one more time.
If Sam has touched your life, youll want to take a moment and tell him about it in the memory book were preparing.  It will be available all day at the information table at the festival.  If you cant make it, just email your message to [email protected] and well be sure to include it in the book.
Of course, the festival will include lots more.  There will be dozens of workshops, a full day of dancing, a room dedicated to storytelling, the instrument petting zoo sponsored by Deering and Carvin, music all day on two stages, food, jam sessions, and an open mike room.  Peter Feldmann & the Very Lonesome Boys, Small Potatoes, and Men of Worth will take part in the activities all day long, and our roster of local performers is long and talented.
Peter Feldmann & The Very Lonesome Boys are a fine traditional bluegrass band. The lineup includes Tom Lee, bass; Bud Bierhaus, guitar; David West, banjo; and Tommy Marton, fiddle.  Peter will deliver a workshop during the afternoon and the band will present a show that night.

Website Change:
Yes, the monthly calendar is gone.  But have no fear, the monthly events haven't disappeared, they've moved to a new page.  You can find all the regularly scheduled folk events on the Open Mike page.  All other folk events will be listed here, under "Events and Announcements."

Folk Heritage Concert Managers Still Needed:
San Diego Folk Heritage is seeking volunteer Concert Managers for their events.  You not only get into the concert you elect to manage free, but you can hob nob with the performers.  (Go to the SDFH website to see some of the performers you might get to meet!).  And you get to be with our volunteer staff, who are dedicated and fun to work with.  Interested?  Call Chuck Thompson at (760) 630-5745 or email him at [email protected].

Reminder:
Not everything that's important is in the Events and Announcements, please remember to check the News as well.

It's membership time again!
We do have a web site now but most folkies are still not wired.  The most efficient and reliable way to remind everyone to show up is the good old fashioned newsletter in the mail that can be put on the fridge.  Feel free to email Darrell ([email protected]) and let him know what you think.
Due to rising production costs, were going to have to start cutting the list and I dont want to leave you out!  Dues are $5 per calendar year.  Make check payable to SDFSS.
     Thanks,
     Ted Theodore
     Club Treasurer
